Hat (diameter 3-10 cm): hemispherical, usually brown, brown or chocolate colored, often with light scales.

Shiitake counterparts: champignons (Agaricus). The main difference is that shiitake plants grow on trees.
When it grows: only in the warm season, but in artificially created conditions it can bear fruit all year round.
